Seasons Greetings to Our Muskie Bay Family!

“Celebrating 16 years here at Muskie Bay!” 2012 turned out to be another Great Season. As most of you know, the fall is our quiet time here at the Bay, when we look back and reflect on the summer, the great memories made, and those guests who make our job so easy! Rennie got to go both Bear and Moose hunting up north, he came home empty handed, but well rested after spending time with the guys. I think we can title this year, “The Year of the Children” We had several weeks where we had 30 plus kids in the fishing derby, sandcastle contest, and scavenger hunt. This helps prove that we are truly a “Family Vacation Place”.

Earlier this spring, John Hafner passed away at the age of 99. Many of you will remember John, doing what he did best, catching walleye and cutting our grass. Sitting on the Liars Bench telling tales of the good old days with our guests help pass the hot afternoons too. I believe he was here for over 30 years.

This June 12th, our 2nd granddaughter was born, Julianna Marie Vlietstra. Big sister Alexandria, truly enjoyed the Bay this summer, swimming and playing on the beach! Our annual fireworks, started by Carlos Mendes several years ago, were fantastic again this summer. Carlos parents joined us this summer all the way from Brazil, to spend an enjoyable family week here at the Bay. Our new trampoline held up, giving the kids a lot of fun, jumping and playing, as the last one was worn out! Monday’s pot-luck suppers were once again fantastic, with more guests coming out every year, to share a dish and friendship. The Snack Bar was kept busy, filling our guests with breakfast and a steady flow of coffee. Breakfast often included fresh walleye, and fish stories!

This summer was once again great for those guys fishing. The Bass & Walleye were plentiful. Long-time guest Dave Whitton had 4 muskies in one day, and won the Rice Lake Big Fish Competition. Catching a Muskie here at the Bay, it seems like the entire camp goes down to the docks to take pictures, see how much it weighs etc. and get the story on how, when, and where it was caught. While our summer weather was perfect, no storms taking any trees down, or other damage, Super Storm Sandy definitely did a lot of damage to the eastern states. For us, it basically meant rain for a week, but for some of our guests, it was chaos, with no hydro, water, etc. This week, Nov 20th the sun is shining; the temperature is around 9 degrees, perfect for those last minute outside jobs we have to do. Once again, we would like to thank all of you for your support & kindness, making 2012 another successful year. We look forward to 2013.

From our Family to you, Merry Christmas, and Many Blessings for the New Year!
